Hey everyone! So, I'm totally geeking out today talking about the Nintendo DS. Seriously, it was the handheld console of my youth, and I'm sure for a lot of you too. I’m doing a little poll today and it’s all about those early DS memories!

I mean, who can forget those first few years? The games, the design...it was a whole vibe. And honestly? I kinda messed up early on. I remember seeing the original DS launch and thinking, "Meh, it's just another handheld." Massive mistake. I was so focused on other stuff, and totally missed out on grabbing one at launch. I ended up paying way more for a used one later – talk about buyer’s remorse! That taught me a lesson about hype, and actually paying attention to what’s new in gaming tech.

The Original DS: A Touchscreen Revolution

The thing that really blew my mind back then was the dual-screen setup. I mean, two screens on a handheld? It was groundbreaking. It felt so futuristic. The touchscreen was also something that hadn't been done on such a scale before, and it totally changed how we interacted with games. Remember how innovative that felt?

This wasn't just a gimmick, either. Games like Metroid Prime Hunters and Super Mario 64 DS really showed off the possibilities of this new tech. The way it allowed for different gameplay styles in the same game was genius.

My Early DS Game Obsessions (And Epic Fails)

My first DS game was Nintendogs. Yup, a puppy simulator. Don't judge! I was obsessed! I spent hours "walking" my virtual dogs, playing with them, and basically living the dream of dog ownership without the actual responsibility. (I still love the idea of owning a dog, but honestly, it was a perfect solution for an apartment dweller!)

Then there was Elite Beat Agents. Rhythm games are not easy, trust me, but I spent so much time on that game. The music was catchy and the gameplay was addictive. I became quite the rhythm-game aficionado for awhile. Unfortunately, my skills peaked really fast; I got so competitive with my friends, I ended up breaking my stylus!

I still cringe thinking about it. It was a really expensive replacement. Learning to be careful with your stuff is an important lesson for everyone! Speaking of important lessons...

Top Tips for Early DS Collectors (Or Anyone, Really!)

So, I've learned a few things through trial and error. If you're into collecting early DS games or consoles (which is totally awesome!), here's some advice:

• Check eBay and other online marketplaces regularly. You can find some amazing deals! Also, Facebook Marketplace is where it’s at, especially for finding local deals. Be patient, deals will pop up eventually.
• Always look for sellers with good feedback. Avoid scams by going for sellers with ratings of 95% or more. Trust your gut too; something feeling off about a deal? Step away.
• Protect your games and consoles! I cannot stress this enough. A hard shell case is essential.
